An Essay on The Door in the Wall

In the subject of L/L Writing the teacher propose us to write an essay on one of the book we read. I choose "The Door in the Wall". Here is my essay:

The Door in the Wall was about a boy called Wallace that when he was 5 years old he was going to school and saw a green door in a white wall. The last time he thought he had seen the door was in a construction place, which caused his death.
The author described the contrast between reality and imagination in the story. Wallace, the protagonist, lived his real life as a politician, but at the same time he became obsessed to find this imaginary garden behind the green door.
It is difficult to match his real life and the door in the wall, because, as I said before, he was a politician, had money, his mother died when he was a kid and his relationship with his father was bad. He was not a happy boy. The door always appeared when he as doing another things.
The garden and everything that was inside it with his childhood is another difficult thing to match, because inside the door there were all the things he would like to have but he could not. There he could find trees, children, etc. It was a paradise for him. In his childhood he was alone, his father did not pay attention to him, his mother was dead and he did not have friends at school. His only friend was Redmond, the first person that knew this and narrated the story.
Finally, the gallery and when he died in the construction place. In the gallery he found a woman with a book that showed him like a summary of his life. When he wanted to see how his life would continue, everything started to disappear and he appeared on the street. The construction place was the last time he saw the door and it was when he died entering to the door.
In the Door in the Wall, the author H.H. Wells, shows that it does not matter if you have a sad or happy childhood you can always imagine what you want and nobody can prohibit you this, like Wallace. In this case, he created his own escape from reality with everything he needed, like a mother and friends. That is why the door appeared only when he was sad, as when his father died or when he felt lonely.

Love Without Differences

In the subject of L/L Writing we had to write a short story and we have to include a situation of tension between a mother and a son, or a conflict of social classes.

A long time ago there were two families that were fighting because of their social classes. The family that was from a lower class was formed by a mom called Victoria but people called her Vicky and her son was called Joseph but people called him Joe. Joe's father died when he was 5 years old. Vicky was 43 years old and Joe was 15 years old. Vicky had long, brown, curly hair and green eyes. Joe had short  blonde and straight hair and blue eyes. The other family was formed by a mom, a dad, a son and a daughter; they were from a high social class. The mom was called Maria but they called her Marry, the dad was called Robert, the son was called Marco and the daughter Ambar. Maria had long, blonde and brown hair and grey eyes, Robert was bald and had honey brown colour eyes, Marco had short, curly and red hair and blue eyes and Ambar had very long, red and blonde hair, grey eyes and freckles in all her face. This fight happened in a small but beauty town in Mandalasia.
The fight started when Ambar fell in love with Joseph, but their families prohibited them to see each other because of their social classes. One day Vicky called Joseph to have lunch but he was not in his house. She thought that he was at Ambar's house, so she went to Ambar parent's house to tell them that she wanted to talk with her son, but they told her that he was not there and they also realised that their daughter was not at home. They started looking for them because they were very worried and furious. They looked for them for three hours, but they did not find them. When they least expected, a policeman knocked on the door and said they had found Joseph and Ambar under a bridge kissing. Robert telephoned Vicky to tell her that the police had found their children under a bridge and if she wanted to go with them to look for Joe. When each of them were in their houses they had a very long chat. Ambar parent's prohibited her to go out from the house. Joseph and Vicky had a very strange fight.
-I do not want to see you any more with Ambar, she is from a high social class and you are from a lower one-, said Vicky.
-That does not matter, I love her and she loves me, and we want to have a very happy family-, said Joe.
-I understand that you love her, but if you marry her you will be a man from the high social class and I do not want to be alone and to lose you, you are my son and I love you a lot. You are the only thing I have in this world-, said Vicky crying.
-Mom, you know that I love you and I would never change you, but I want to have my own life with Ambar-, said Joe.
-I understand your feelings so I will leave you to have your own life with Ambar-, said Vicky.
-Thank you mom, now I will go to Ambar's house to tell her parents that I love her and nobody will prohibit us to marry and live our own like., said Joe.

Pied Beauty

In the subject of L/L Writing we saw a poem called "Pied Beauty" from Gerard Manley Hopkins. The teacher propose us to imagine that we are Gerard Manley Hopkins before he wrote the poem and I travelled to the English countryside to find inspiration for my poem. Here is my soliloquy:

I am so tired, this day will be exhausting. I have to visit all the English countryside to get inspired to write my next poem. I do not know what to write about. I have to prepare everything to start visiting the English countryside. What would I need to take? A pencil, a notebook to write the ideas that come to my head when I see something, a bag to put away my things and I think that nothing else. Oh no, it is raining outside, I won't be able to visit the English countryside today, I think I will go tomorrow, but I can not, I would not be able to visit the fantastic places that the English countryside has. I have to think of another way to visit this countryside. If I wear a jacket and an umbrella I will not get wet. Well, let's go. Sometimes I can't believe that God created all these dappled and pied things. The skies are like brinded cows, with the complementary colours. Wow, they have a lot of things, the fish, specially the trout, their spots in circles. The finches wings, chestnuts falling, everything God created is magic. The plough, fallow and plotted landscape, I love it! Everything is opposite and original. Everything flows or not, the sour and sweet things, we have to praise God, he is the creator of everything. Yes! I am very inspired now, I have to go back home to write my new poem. I have to get a carriage before I forget everything.

No Le Temas A Lo Que Te Teme

Diary Entry

In the subject of L/L Writing the teacher told us to write a diary entry about a poem we were working with. The name of the poem is "A Different History" from Sujata Bhatt, an Indian writer. This poem is about the British colonization in India. Which explores the connection between culture and language. In particular the first part of the poem talks about life in India Before British colonization. The second part is about India after the British colonization.

17th November 1972
Dear diary,

Today was a normal day. I woke up, I went to the toilette, I washed my face, I brushed my teeth, I brushed my hair. Then I went to my bedroom, I stayed one hour changing my clothes. Finally I decided to wear a pair of shorts, a T-shirt, a pair of shoes, a sweater and some gloves. Because it was a little bit cold. Then I went to have breakfast. I ate some toast bread with cheese and I drank coffee with milk. When I finished I wanted to go out, but I could not. It was full of British soldiers. They were killing every person that was outside of their houses. It was horrible. The streets were full of corpses. Things were getting worse every minute. Many babies were stolen from their families to become British people. They taught them British things. British soldiers were taking a hundred people, I do not know what for, I am so scared. They are teaching all of us British culture, religion, traditions, languages, their identities, everything. I do not want to be: a British person; I love being from India and nobody is going to change this. I am so scared about what is going to happen. I do not know if they are going to kill me, if I am going to be a British girl, or something else. This was a very bad day, because British people came to colonize us and we do not know what to do. I am going to see what is happening. I love you diary. I am going to continue writing later.
